Children are the most valuable potential of any society. Therefore, it is the responsibility of adults to create conditions for their healthy and well-rounded development. A key role in this process is played by the proper development of the musculoskeletal system from an early school age.

Correct posture is the foundation of a healthy spine. The way a child stands and sits throughout the school day has a long-term impact on their body alignment in the future. Beyond physical health, posture also influences children’s self-confidence and self-esteem. Proper physical development provides a solid foundation for building a resilient psyche and maintaining overall good health.

In this context, school furniture is often underestimated as a factor in children’s proper growth. At “Mebel Factor,” we firmly believe that poorly selected furniture can contribute to the development of spinal deformities, which is why its selection must be approached carefully and in accordance with ergonomic requirements.

During childhood, the spine has not yet completed its development—a process that finishes around the ages of 18–19. During this period, children spend many hours sitting, both at school and at home, while writing, reading, and preparing lessons. This makes the choice of appropriate school furniture extremely important.

A fundamental principle in this selection is the correct height of the furniture, tailored to the child’s age and height. In a proper seated position, the feet should rest firmly on the floor, the knees should form a right angle, and the thighs and torso should form a second right angle. Adhering to these requirements significantly reduces the risk of developing scoliosis. The desk or table should have minimum dimensions of 70 × 50 cm to provide sufficient space for school materials while allowing the student to comfortably place both elbows on the work surface.

Another major risk to children’s health that should not be underestimated is myopia. It is a visual impairment that affects the ability to see clearly at a distance. To prevent it, it is important to observe so-called “visual hygiene,” which includes maintaining an adequate distance of no less than 35 cm between the child’s eyes and open textbooks, ensuring proper lighting, and taking regular breaks every 40 minutes.

By taking these essential parameters into account, correct body posture can be maintained, improper strain on the spine can be avoided, and healthy physical development in school-aged children can be effectively supported..

The right choice is important.

“Mebel Factor” offers school desks with safe, rounded edges and suitable chairs in various heights, adapted to the age of the child. The required heights are defined by the BDS EN 1729 standard and are based on ergonomic studies conducted on children across the European Union. These dimensions are periodically updated in accordance with changes related to growth acceleration in different generations.
